RWANDA proved that they will be no push-overs at the on-going World Youth Olympic Volleyball Games qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt following Thursday’s annihilation of DRC (25-19, 25-7, 25-20).

Rwanda, who showed a lot of consistency, swept the Congolese in 70 minutes.

After a sluggish start, the team made a big turn over in the first set thanks to Feza Izabayo’s unstoppable spikes.

Izabayo, who finished as the game’s top scorer with 19 points helped the side claim the set 25-19.

The second set was a one-sided affair as Rwanda raced through to take the set (25-7).

Paul Bitok’s side then finished off the job in the third set with a 25-20 victory.

"Winning a strong and experienced team like DRC is a very welcome nod and gives us hope that we can go a long way in this competition,” the Kenyan said.

The Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) President Dr. Elwani Amr also lauded the Rwandan side for their incisive win.

In the other game, Kenya cruised past South Africa 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-11).

Today, Rwanda returns to the court with a tougher tie against Tunisia. DRC play South Africa while African giants Egypt entertain Kenya.
