Rwanda Energy Group Volleyball Club (REG VC) have secured a wild card entry into the 2026 CAVB Men’s Club Championship, set to take place in Kigali from April 22 to May 3.

REG’s inclusion raises Rwanda’s representation to four clubs at the continental showpiece, which is already shaping up to be a record-breaking edition.

Initially, Rwanda was to be represented by three teams—Police Volleyball Club, APR Volleyball Club, and Kepler Volleyball Club. However, the Rwanda Volleyball Federation confirmed that REG will join as a fourth team, benefiting from the host nation’s privilege to include an additional side through a wild card slot.

The tournament, which doubles as a qualifier for the 2026 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship scheduled for December, will be held at BK Arena and Petit Stade.

A total of 37 clubs from across Africa have registered for this year’s competition—the highest number in the tournament’s history. Traditionally, the championship has featured fewer than 25 teams, underlining the scale and growing appeal of the 2026 edition.

The expanded list of applicants includes several new entrants such as Faith Union Sport (Morocco); Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa VC, Jeshi Stars VC, and Prisons VC (Tanzania); Finances VC (Benin); Association Omnisports de la Garde Républicaine (Gabon); El Wak Wings VC and Kalibi Sporting Club (Ghana); as well as Rukinzo VC (Burundi).

Despite the surge in interest, only 32 teams will make the final cut, in line with competition regulations. All participating clubs are expected to arrive in Kigali by April 20.
