Father Kayumba memorial tourney set for March 4

The 2023 Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament has been scheduled from February 4-5 at Group Scolaire Officielle de Butare courts, in Huye.

The tournament is held annually in memory of late father Emmanuel Kayumba who passed away in 2009. Kayumba is remembered for his instrumental role in the growth of volleyball among schools, especially at Group Scolaire de Butare during his time as the school headmaster.

According to Father Charles Hakizimana, the head Master of Groupe Scolaire de Butare, the tournament will attract local teams from various categories from top flight division to secondary school levels.

"We have invited various teams, including men's and women's championships, schools, and veterans," Said Hakizimana

Reigning champions APR Volleyball Club and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) will be looking to defend the trophies they won in 2022 in men and women categories respectively.

Participating teams

Men: APR, REG, Gisagara, Forefront and Kirehe

Women: APR, RRA, Forefront, Ruhango, IPRC-Kigali, IPRC-Huye and Gisagara volleyball Academy.

Veterans: BPR, Mamba, Tou Age, Umucyo, Nyanza veterans, Kudum and Buffle Fort.

Second Division: college du Christ Roi, College office de Butare, Petit Seminaire Virgo Fidelis, Gisagara volleyball Academy, Marie Rene, College St Ignace Mugina, Groupe Scolaire Saint Joseph Kabgayi, Nyanza TSS and Gitisi.

O’level: The Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare, College St Ignace Mugina, Petit Seminaire Virgo Fidelis, Regina Pacis, Gisagara Academy, and École Secondaire Kigoma.
