Beninese outfit Finance VC are set to make history by becoming one of the first clubs from beyond the East African region to participate in the 2026 Genocide Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Kigali. The annual tournament, organised by the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) in collaboration with the Rwanda National Olympic Committee (RNOC), forms part of the commemoration activities honouring victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi through sport. Finance VC is expected to arrive at Kigali International Airport on Thursday ahead of the three-day competition scheduled for June 19-21. ALSO READ: REG, Police clinch 2025 Volleyball GMT trophies This year’s edition has attracted 14 clubs competing in both the men’s and women’s categories, bringing together some of the strongest volleyball sides from Rwanda and neighbouring countries. The men’s competition features defending champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG), Kepler VC, Police VC, Gisagara VC, RP Ngoma VC, APR VC, Uganda’s Sky Volleyball Club, and Finance VC. In the women’s category, defending champions Police WVC will face APR WVC, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), Uganda’s KCB Nkumba VC and Kenya Pipeline Authority from Kenya. The tournament will be played in two phases, beginning with the preliminary stage featuring pool matches and quarter-finals where applicable, before progressing to the semi-finals and finals that will determine the 2026 champions.
