Sports Ministry gets new Permanent Secretary

A cabinet meeting on Monday January 30, appointed Zephanie Niyonkuru as the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports (MINISPORTS).

He replaced Didier Shema Maboko who was suspended from the position in September last year.

Niyonkuru previously served as the deputy CEO of Rwanda Development Board, a position he assumed from July 2019 until he was dropped from the position in October last year.

He also served as the Board Chairman of Rwanda Airports Company Limited.

Like his predecessor, Niyonkuru also has a background in sports as a football referee. Football governing body (Ferwafa) awarded him as the referee of the year in 2016.

Meanwhile, Rwego Ngarambe, who was working with Rwanda Basketball Federation FERWABA also appointed as Director General in charge of Sports Development.

The 28-year-old, who is living his dream as a sports lawyer, is one of the few Rwandans in the profession.

Rwego is a certified legal professional representing athletes, industry boards, teams, leagues, and other sports organisations.

He holds a Master’s degree in International Sports Law that he got in 2021 from Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía (ISDE) in Madrid, Spain.
