The 2026 National Cycling Championships this weekend, with the country's top cyclists set to compete for the national titles on June 27 and 28. The two-day competition will feature riders from FERWACY-affiliated clubs as well as cyclists from approved national teams. The championships will be contested in the elite men's, under-23 men's, junior men's (under-19), and women's elite, under-23 and junior categories. Competition gets underway on Saturday, June 27, with the individual time trial looping around Batsinda circuit from Gasabo district. The time trial will cover 21 kilometres for junior men, 30 kilometres for women and junior women, and 41 kilometres for elite men and the under-23 category. The championships conclude on Sunday, June 28, with the road race, which starts at 9am. The elite men's and under-23 race will cover 158 kilometres, starting from Batsinda and passing through Shyorongi, Base, Gicumbi, Rukomo and Nyacyonga before finishing back in Batsinda. The women's race will be held over 115 kilometres, beginning in Kirenge before passing through Base, Gicumbi, Rukomo and Nyacyonga to the finish in Batsinda. The junior men's race will cover 62 kilometres, starting from Ibanda in Gicumbi District. The championships will crown Rwanda's national road race and individual time trial champions for the 2026 season. Last year's road race titles were won by Eric Nkundabera in the elite men's category, Moise Ntirenganya in the junior men's race, Djazilla Mwamikazi in the elite women's event and Yvonne Masengesho in the junior women's category.
