TotalEnergies’ young rider Jason Tesson took the yellow jersey on Wednesday after crossing the finish line in Mouila first to win Stage Three and his second of La Tropicale Amissa Bongo.
Just like he did in Oyem on Tuesday, Tesson won the stage on a long sprint after racing 113km from Lebamba to Mouila in two hours 27 minutes and 38 seconds, ahead of Dane Alexander Salby (Bingoal-WB) and his TotalEnergies counterpart Geoffrey Soupe.
Moise Mugisha and Eric Manizabayo were Rwanda’s best performers after finishing in the 23rd and 32nd places on the stage, using the same period as stage winner Tesson.
As in the first two stages in Bitam and Oyem, energy, resistance and experience again made the difference for TotalEnergies’ riders against African riders.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, riders will compete for stage four, departing from Mouila to Lambarene, the longest stage of the 2023 edition’s itinerary with 190 kilometres.
The roads at the next itinerary are very rolling with a hillier second part of the stage.
The traditional finish in Lambaréné always offers breaks at the head of the peloton.
