REG 3-2 Gisagara

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Volleyball Club on Sunday beat title rivals Gisagara Volleyball Club in a five-set thriller (25-20, 23-25,25-17,17-25,15-12) at Ngoma district court to move a step away from winning the 2022/2023 national volleyball league title.

Pierre Marshal Kwizera’s men were more determined prior to the season-defining clash as they knew a victory over reigning champions Gisagara would put them in pole position to dethrone them this season.

The victory saw REG move at the top of the table with 50 points and leapfrog the Southern Province-based side who dropped to second with 49 points while APR VC remain on the third position with 41 points.

The title is now REG’s to lose. The club, who are now toe-to-toe with Gisagara with one (eighth) phase to go, only need to win their remaining fixtures or any mistake could blow their chances of finishing the season triumphant.

In a recent interview with Times Sport, Kwizera said he is confident his side can go all the way to win this year&039;s league title, ending the club’s three-year title drought.

"Every team has the ability to win this year’s title but we will do our best until the last game of the tournament,” he said.

This year’s league format is composed of eight phases. The teams have so far played 7 phases from different places across the country, with Kigali being the host of the final phase on January 21.

Fifteen teams in total, including eight men’s clubs and seven in women’s category, are taking part in the 2022-2023 national volleyball league which got underway in October this year.
