A 16-race calendar has been announced for the Rwanda Cycling Federation (Ferwacy) season, including the arrival of Tour du Rwanda, Continental Championship and World Championship for the 2023 season.

The calendar has seen numerous changes in recent years.

According to the calendar, the season will start with Heroes Cycling Race which takes place in January in Gasabo and Kicukiro Districts and will be followed by the highly-anticipated Tour du Rwanda, the biggest race on the calendar slated for February 19-26.

The competition will continue in March and will see riders take their bikes to Rusizi, Karongi and Rubavu District for the Kivu Belt race. Rwanda will be participating at the 2023 Africa Cycling Championship in the same month.

In April, riders will compete at Race to Remember which will be held in Kigali, Gicumbi and Kigali while May will see them entertain cycling lovers during the Akagera Race in Gatsibo.

June will be a busy month with two races, the Education and Culture Race in Huye and the National Cycling Championship in Kigali and Bugesera, on the agenda.

In July, the cyclists will compete in Liberation Race that will start from Kigali and end Nyagatare while Nyanza will be waiting on their wings to host the Royal Nyanza Race/Umuganura which will be staged in August, the same month when Rwandan riders will participate at the 2023 World Championship in Glasgow, Scotland.

Kibugabuga Race and Kwita Izina Race will be staged in Bugesera in September while Kirehe District will host Gisaka Race in October.

Kibeho Race, which is held in Nyaruguru, will be up next in November before riders close their race calendar in December with two races namely Human Rights Race in Gisagara and Musanze Gorilla Race in Musanze.

It’s a hectic calendar that the federation looks to increase competitions across the country not only to discover new talents but also raise riders’ level of performance.

Ferwacy hence wants to give more young talented riders a chance to compete in as many competitions as possible to help them grow technically, mentally, and physically before competing in continental and international races in future.

The just-concluded 2022 race calendar saw Moise Mugisha end victorious after winning three consecutive races including Musanze Gorilla race, Kibeho race and Royal Nyanza race.
