The BK Pro League has entered a decisive phase as the battle to avoid relegation intensifies with only two matches remaining in the season.
While football often produces unexpected twists, the fight for survival appears set to go down to the final day, with several clubs still uncertain of their top-flight status for next season.
Five teams, Rutsiro FC, AS Muhanga, Etincelles FC, AS Kigali and Amagaju FC, remain at risk of relegation and could either secure survival or drop to the second division depending on results in the closing fixtures of the campaign.
Times Sport breaks down the current standings and the key matches that could determine each club’s fate before the end of the season.
18. Rutsiro FC (26 points)
Bottom-placed Rutsiro FC are firmly in must-win territory as they fight to avoid relegation. With only two matches remaining, the Western Province side must collect maximum points and improve their goal difference to stand any realistic chance of survival.
Any slip-up could leave them condemned to the second division.
To escape the relegation zone, Rutsiro must win both of their remaining matches while hoping teams above them, particularly AS Kigali and Etincelles, drop crucial points.

17. AS Muhanga (28 points)
AS Muhanga also remain deep in relegation trouble and face a difficult task to preserve their top-flight status.
Currently second from bottom, the club must secure maximum points from its final two matches to keep survival hopes alive. Defensive discipline will be crucial, especially after repeatedly conceding late goals throughout the season.
Coach Mousa Gatera and his side not only need victories in their remaining fixtures but must also rely on favourable results elsewhere, particularly involving teams just above them such as Amagaju FC and AS Kigali.
With the bottom two teams set to drop automatically, every point could prove decisive.

16. Etincelles FC (31 points)
Etincelles boosted their survival hopes with a dramatic 3-2 derby victory over Marines FC on May 16 at Umuganda Stadium. However, Abdul Bekeni Bizimana’s side are still not mathematically safe and remain vulnerable heading into the final stretch of the season.
The Rubavu-based club will likely need at least four points from their final two league matches to secure safety without depending on other results.
Dropped points from rivals such as AS Muhanga and Rutsiro FC would also work in Etincelles’ favour.
The Peace Cup semifinalists now face added pressure as they prepare for a difficult run-in that includes demanding fixtures and the need to improve their away form.

15. AS Kigali (32 points)
AS Kigali remain dangerously close to the relegation zone after an inconsistent campaign, despite holding a slight advantage over the teams below them.
The Citizens need just one win from their remaining two matches to mathematically guarantee survival. With 32 points already on the board, three additional points would secure their place in next season’s BK Pro League regardless of other results.

14. Amagaju FC (34 points)
Amagaju FC are currently in the strongest position among the teams battling relegation. Sitting six points above the drop zone, the Southern Province side need only one point from their final two games to officially secure survival.
A positive result in either of their remaining fixtures would guarantee their place in the top flight next season.
