17 injured in Bugesera attacks

BUGESERA - Residents of Kindama, Ruhuha sector, Bugesera district,  were left in shock when unknown thugs attacked and injured 17 people on Sunday.  

Julius Rukundo, the district vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs confirmed the incident yesterday.

Five of the injured people were still admitted at Nyamata Hospital, while others were treated at Ruhuha Health Centre, according to officials. 

Speaking at a provincial security meeting, Rukundo narrated that the thugs first attacked a businessman and when he raised an alarm, people came to his rescue forcing the thugs to run away.

"While fleeing they went on cutting people they came across with machetes. We do not know them or their exact motive,” he added.

According to police, the thugs also raided two village bars at around 2 am, and made off with Rwf234, 000 and property. 

Four people have so far been arrested in relation to the incident.
