Here are new transport fares from Kigali to provinces

Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has announced revised public transport fares for intercity and interdistrict routes, with the new tariffs set to take effect on Monday, April 6.

The changes were contained in an official circular released by the regulator, covering major transport corridors linking Kigali’s Nyabugogo Bus Terminal to provincial and district centres, as well as several key interdistrict routes.

Commuters using some of the country’s busiest roads will be affected by the new fare rates, which RURA says applies to hundreds of routes across the country. The new rates were also announced as fuel prices were revised upwards on Friday. In the City of Kigali, the base transport fare is Rwf 59.28 per passenger per kilometre, while intercity transport base fare now stands at Rwf 41.58 per passenger per kilometre.

Northern Province

Fares from Nyabugogo have been adjusted across several routes in the Northern Province, with passengers travelling on Nyabugogo-Musanze set to pay Rwf3,821, while Nyabugogo-Gicumbi will cost Rwf2,297.

Other routes include Nyabugogo-Gatuna at Rwf3,248 and Nyabugogo-Gakenke at Rwf2,416, while longer trips such as Nyabugogo-Butaro (via Base) are priced at Rwf5,940.

Southern Province

In the Southern Province, the revised fares show a steady increase along the corridor, with Nyabugogo-Muhanga set at Rwf2,040. The fare is Rwf2,950 for Nyabugogo-Ruhango and Rwf3,664 for Nyabugogo-Nyanza.

Longer journeys such as Nyabugogo-Huye and Nyabugogo-Nyamagabe will cost Rwf5,068 and Rwf6,653, respectively.

Eastern Province

Passengers heading to the Eastern Province will pay Rwf3,129 for Nyabugogo-Kayonza, with fares increasing for longer distances, including Rwf4,792 to Rwagitima and Rwf6,712 to Nyagatare via Kayonza and Rwf5,346 via Rukomo (Gicumbi).

The routes extending to border points, such as Nyabugogo-Rusumo and Nyabugogo-Kagitumba, have been set at Rwf7,029 and Rwf7,900, respectively.

Western Province

For the Western Province, fares reflect the longer travel distances, with Nyabugogo-Karongi set at Rwf5,504 and Nyabugogo-Rubavu at Rwf6,554. Trips to Nyabugogo-Nyamasheke will cost Rwf8,474, while the longest route, Nyabugogo-Kemembe (via Huye), has been fixed at Rwf11,445.

The circular also lists revised interdistrict fares, including the Musanze to Rubavu route, which will now cost Rwf2,573.
