NGOMA - Police have arrested a 17-year old girl from Karaba village in Karembo, Ngoma district who allegedly killed her mother.

Sources said the girl (names withheld because she is a minor) killed her mother on Monday.

The deceased’s husband, who was away on the fateful day, confirmed the incident, saying that he found his wife under an avocado tree breathing her last.

He called neighbours who helped him to carry his wife to the hospital, but unfortunately she died on the way.
"She has been a very problematic girl.

She’s been engaged in all sorts of nasty things, including promiscuity, selling the crops we produce without our knowledge, and pocketing the money. That is why she was never on good terms with the mother,” the father said of her daughter.

Eye witnesses told The New Times that the mother had used a small stick to beat the girl because she had refused to do house chores.

The girl in turn reacted angrily, and picked a club and hit her mother twice on the head, the eye witnesses said.
Mourners decried the general conduct of children, who are fond of drinking and prostitution in adolescence.

"It is no wonder that some children can go that far,” commented Paul Bicamumaka, 59, a resident of Zaza.
