Labama Kamana Bokota won the inaugural SMS Media Best Football Player of the year accolade at Serena Hotel.The Amavubi and Rayon Sports striker edged Eric Serugaba (Etincelles), Kabange Twite (APR), Jean Baptist Mugiraneza ‘Migi’ (Kiyovu) and fellow team-mate Haruna Niyonzima (Rayon Sports) to the accolade.

The voting was wholly done by the local football ruling body (Ferwafa), local sports journalist, the public and a six-man jury composed of Gaspard Kaijuka, Antoinne Rustindura, Jean Marie Ntagwabira, Aaron Rurangirwa, Eric Nshimiyimana and Michelle Gasigwa. 

According to Kaijuka, the Jury president, discipline, player’s role and influence on the team are what helped Bokota scoop the award.

After being voted, Bokota was presented with a trophy, Frw 1million, a return air-ticket to Nairobi, a weekend for two at Serena Hotel-Nairobi and a fully connected DSTV package amongst others.
