RUHANGO – The Mayor of Ruhango district has asked his residents and leaders to work towards economic transformation and improved social welfare in 2010.

Célestin Twagirumukiza made the remarks on January 4, during the evaluation of district performance contracts for the next six months.

The function was held at the district cultural center. Senators and Members of Parliament participated in the exercise.

Twagirumukiza was optimistic about the pace of development and stated that the district has set targets on modernization of agriculture as well as setting up infrastructure such as factories and institutions of higher learning.

Various presentations from the nine sectors indicated that there has been an increased effort in resolving disputes while more focus has shifted to improved education, health and environmental protection.

It was noted that health insurance penetration was still below an average of 30% and newly constructed 9YBE classroom blocks need to be completed while additional efforts are needed to speed up the village settlements and land consolidation programs. 

Stakeholders among them legislators present at the meeting said that much as the achievements were commendable however much more needed to be done.

The district had also set a tax collection target of over Rwf226 million for the period stipulated in the performance contract.

Jeanne Izabiriza, the provincial executive secretary said that there is hope for better performance in all sectors and encouraged competitiveness and team work in all service sectors.
