Video replays would have spotted Henry handball

Editor,

Many men have caused consternation amongst the Irish nation. Few men have provoked Irish fury as much as Thierry Henry when his blatant act of handball cheating led to the decisive goal for France in the football World Cup 2010 qualifier against Ireland in Paris, November this year.

Clearly the result and France’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2010 at Ireland’s expense must be abided by given the rules of "the beautiful game” which state that the "decision of the referee is final”.

The subsequent failure of FIFA to introduce video technology to rule on disputed goals as the International Rugby Board has done to such effect, at international level ensures that the "beautiful game” remains tarnished in the Emerald Isle and beyond.
