Rwanda women’s cricket team lost by 18 runs to Tanzania who stay unbeaten in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Africa Division One Qualifier taking place in Windhoek, Namibia, on Wednesday, September 3.

Tanzania, who came into the match with two straight wins, won the toss and opted to bat first. Hudaa Omary set the pace with 54 runs off 46 balls, while Fatima Kibasu added 44 runs off 58 balls. Their strong partnership helped lift the team’s total to 123/4 in 20 overs.

In reply, Captain Marie Bimenyimana’s side struggled to chase down the target, falling short at 105/8 in 20 overs. Despite the loss, Shakila Niyomuhoza and Alice Ikuzwe fought hard, scoring 31 runs off 26 balls and 21 runs off 30 balls, respectively.

The defeat marked Rwanda’s second loss in the tournament, weakening their chances of securing the sole ticket to represent Africa at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.

Meanwhile, Tanzania remain favourites, topping Group B with six points from three matches and securing a spot in the semi-finals. Rwanda will now play in the fifth-place play-off on Thursday, September 4.
