Rwanda women’s cricket team fell short by eight wickets against Uganda in the Africa Region Division One Qualifier held in Windhoek, Namibia, on Monday, September 1. Leonard Nhamburo’s side started off their campaign with a win against Kenya, raising hopes of securing the single ticket up for grabs to represent Africa at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup set to take place in England. However, loss against Uganda put their pace on the brake although they still have more games to play to keep their hopes alive. Captain of the day Gisele Ishimwe lifted the score with 41 runs off 33 balls while Henriette Ishimwe added 36 runs off 31 balls. However, the second innings turned against them. Uganda’s Rita Musamali dismantled Rwanda’s pressure with 47 runs off 37 balls, supported by Immaculate Nakisuuyi, who added 43 runs off 42 balls, guiding Uganda to 116/2 in 16.3 overs. The victory placed Uganda in second position in Group B with two points, behind Tanzania, who lead the charge with two straight wins and four points. Rwanda sits third while Kenya, who are yet to register a win, find themselves at the bottom of the group. Rwanda will next face Tanzania on Tuesday, September 2.
