GICUMBI - Nationwide vaccination of children against polio was on Tuesday launched in Gicumbi District.
There was a massive turn out at different vaccination centers in Byumba Sector for the campaign that targets children less than 5 years.

The vaccination for Byumba town residents was conducted at six sites. These included Gacurabwenge, Nyamabuye, Gisuna, Nyarutarama cell offices and Byumba health center.

The director of Byumba health center, Papias Iyakaremye said: "The vaccination exercise shall continue for three consecutive days until all children under 5 years are vaccinated.”

He stressed the importance of vaccinating children against preventable disease.

"The polio virus is transmitted through the air, which is why parents have to be sensitised to vaccinate children to avoid the dangers of the virus spreading into the population,” he added.
