Rwanda’s Nirere wins Tour de Windhoek

Rwandan rider Xaverine Nirere won her first international cycling race after claiming the Tour de Windhoek 2025 in Namibia on Sunday.

Nirere, who was riding for Kenyan cycling club Team Amani, claimed the race after winning Sunday’s 67.7km final stage in 7 hours 18 minutes and 42 seconds.

She crossed the finish line in Matchless ahead of her teammates Merhawit Asgodom and Serkalem Watango 7:28:37 and 7:28:54 respectively.

Valentine Nzayisenga was the standout performer for Team Rwanda. She finished 18th while Martha Ntakirutimana came in the 20th place, Diane Ingabire finished in 23rd place while Josiane Mukashema (27th) and Charlotte Iragena (37th) followed.

Besides winning the yellow jersey for the overall race winner, Nirere was also named Best Sprinter, with 28 points, five points ahead of De Marigny-Lagesse Lucie of Mauritius.

Nirere, 23, is a road racing cyclist from Rwanda, who has been active in cycling since 2016. Her best results are winning National Championships.
