Two women arrested for dumping baby

MUSANZE – Residents in Kigombe village, Muhoza sector were yesterday stunned when they discovered an infant crying from Rwebeya water channel, after it was dumped by its mother. They immediately called the police and the child’s mother Claudine Mukamurangira, was tracked and arrested.

MUSANZE – Residents in Kigombe village, Muhoza sector were yesterday stunned when they discovered an infant crying from Rwebeya water channel, after it was dumped by its mother.

They immediately called the police and the child’s mother Claudine Mukamurangira, was tracked and arrested.

"I don’t have a husband; I feared for my safety, my parents would not tolerate the idea that I have a baby. I am very sorry,’’ Mukamurangira said.

In a separate incident, another woman identified as Donatha Mahorakeye, who dumped her newly born baby in a pit latrine was arrested. The baby was rescued by residents.

Residents say cases of child abuse and neglect have been common especially in Bereshi town suburbs.
