RWANDA’s junior wasps paid the price for wasting numerous goal scoring chances after being held to a goalless draw in their opening Cecafa-Bashir Youth Championship Group C game against Eritrea.

Michael Weiss’ side led by APR’s whiz kid Emmanuel Sebanani squandered many goal scoring opportunities either half to toughen their chances of progressing into the quarter-finals.

The team also had their goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure to thank after three top class saves in the final minutes of the game which was played at the Wad Medani stadium.

Rwanda now faces a tough task on Monday when they play defending champions Burundi in their final group tie. Burundi where scheduled to play Eritrea by press time.

Meanwhile, hosts Sudan have received a hefty penalty for fielding over-age players at the on-going competition.

According to reports from Sudan, the body has scrapped Sudan of its Group A opening game win over Tanzania. Sudan cruised to a 3-0 win in that tie but the points have now been awarded to Tanzania.

Players eligible to feature in the competition are those born in 1993 and after but several Sudan players were found to be born between 1990 and 1992.

By press time, the Sudan football federation had been asked to draft a new players’ list ahead of their clash with Somalia later today.

The list has to be approved by Cecafa before getting the green light to play Somalia.

The body has also promised to carry out detailed investigations for all the other teams.
