Rwanda’s tennis ace Jean Claude Gasigwa reached the semi-finals of the Kenya money circuit with a 6-1 6-4 victory over Kenya’s Yash Rawal yesterday.

Gasigwa, the tournament’s seed two dominated the clash. Rawal broke in the opening game but Gasigwa replied with a barrage of winners to take six of the next eight and the opening set.

The pair swapped breaks at the start of the second set before Gasigwa stepped up a gear in the sixth game to break again for a 4-2 lead before completing the rout in 58 minutes.

"Breaking back in the second game and again in the sixth game of the opening set was crucial, it means a lot against players of Rawal’s quality,” said Gasigwa, who will play another Kenyan Gilbert Kibet in the last four.

"I am delighted about today’s performance although I still felt a little tired following my long trip from Kigali,” the 26-year-old told Times Sport on phone. Kibet earlier progressed with a 6-4 6-3 triumph over Rwanda’s Dieudonne Habiyambere.
