Cycling hopefuls Kevin Nshutiraguma and Sandrine Umutoni emerged victorious in their (boys and girls’ juniors) respective categories as the 'Rwanda Youth Racing Cup 2024' resumed action at the Field of Dreams in Bugesera, young cyclists on Sunday, April 21.

Organised by the local cycling governing body (Ferwacy), the youth racing cup take place in different parts of the counts as part of the federation’s drive to unearth new cycling talents and give them a platform to grow it, preparing them into future stars.

A total of 156 cyclists, aged between 11 and 19, competed across five age groups (U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19) in the boys' and girls' divisions, showcasing their passion and talent on the road to success.

Nshutiraguma, who rides for Cine Elmay, claimed the 25-lap junior race of 32 kilometres in 54 minutes and 56 seconds. He was closely pursued by Shadrack Ufitinema of Les Amis Sportifs and Jean de Dieu Manizabayo of Sina Cycling Club who finished second and third respectively trailing 48 seconds.

In the girls’ juniors category, Bugesera Cycling Team’s Umutoni was the first to cross the finish line after covering 21 laps in 58 minutes and 18 seconds ahead of Charlotte Iragena of Ndabaga Cycling Team and Léa Uwamariya of Bike For Future Team.

Yvonne Masengesho from Ndabaga WCT and Juliano Ndrianamampi of CMC World Cycling Center won the race in the U17 while Jovaire Riza from Ndabaga Women Cycling and Habumuremyi Cyuza from Les Amis Sportifs emerged winners in U15 category.

Meanwhile, Albert Ndashimye, riding for Bugesera Cycling Team, and Queen Joy Cynthia of Benediction Cycling Team, won the boys and girls’ U13 race respectively while, as for U11 category, Ogila Igiraneza (Muhazi Cycling Generation) and Alexis Ntwari (Kangaro Cycling Academy) hit the podium as winners.

The next Youth Racing Cup series will shift to Rwamagana on April 27.
