Rayon Sports' head coach Julien Mette has admitted that it will be difficult to win the league in his first season but insists it is possible.

The Frenchman was hired by the Blues in January, replacing Muhamed Wade who had temporarily held the position since October.

He faces a big, albeit possible task in the title challenge, as Rayon Sports is currently sitting second on the league table with 42 points, trailing the leaders APR by four points.

The next game the Blues will play is against third-placed Musanze on Friday, February 23, 6pm at Kigali Pele Stadium.

"I'm not here to lie, it's going to be difficult (to win the title) with the gap as you see. APR FC hasn't lost a single game, they have a lot of confidence but what I know is we will give them a hard time," Mette said.

He hinted at the need to win every remaining game, but for that to happen, he said the team has to work together.

"We all need to work together as a unit from top to bottom,” he said.

The last time Rayon Sports won the league title was in 2019.

Mette began his coaching career in his native France with Jeunesse Villenavaise in 2011 where he spent four years before moving to Congo Brazzaville to coach Tongo FC Jambon in 2016.

He also coached the Djiboutian national team between 2019 and 2022.
