Rwanda Women's Sitting Volleyball head coach Mosaad Rashad has praised his players following their qualification to the Paris Paralympic Games 2024.

The Rwanda women’s team defeated East African rivals Kenya 3-0 on Saturday, February 3, to win the Africa Zone Sitting Volleyball Championship in Lagos, Nigeria, and book their place in the global Paralympic event in style.

"I want to thank the players, my staff...We came here to qualify, and our mission is done as we planned. My players did everything right, they showed that they are a strong team," Rashad said after qualifying Rwanda to Paris.

On her part, Liliane Mukobwankawe, the skipper of the team also pointed out that the adequate training they had yielded dividends despite stiff competition from their opponents including continental tournament finalists Kenya.

"We are so happy to qualify. This shows that we didn&039;t waste time on our preparations," Mukobwankawe stressed.

"It was not an easy ride because every match was different. Kenya has been looking at how we play since the competition began and they gave us a hard time, but we kept the energy still until the last minute."

Going forward, Rashad has already set up a training programme where he looks to take his team to a camp in Brazil and Germany to keep players in good shape for the Games.

"I have plans for Paris, we will not go to Paris just to play. We have plans to excel in the tournament,” the Egyptian coach said.

"We will put our plans in front of the Ministry to help us prepare for Paris. We want to start early by having training camp in Brazil and Germany and, this way, we can have a good tournament in Paris."

"I am proud of my players, and they should keep in their mind that we are going to Paris to do very well," he added.

This is going to be Rwanda's third appearance in the Olympic Games sitting volleyball category after appearances in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
