The National Heroes Cycling Cup is set to take place on February 1 in Gasabo, featuring more than 60 riders, The New Times has learned.

Organised by the Rwanda Cycling Federation (Ferwacy) in collaboration with the Chancellery for Heroes, National Orders and Decorations of Honour (CHENO) the competition is part of the annual Heroes Day celebrations observed on February 1.

This year, the event will revolve around the theme "Courage among Rwandans, our value.” The competition will aim at both paying tribute to Rwandan heroes and preparing the riders for the upcoming Tour du Rwanda.

Riders and clubs, particularly those participating in Tour du Rwanda 2024 edition scheduled for February 18-25, will aim to use the Heroes Day contest to get ready for Tour du Rwanda.

The course for the Heroes Cup will see men complete 11 laps covering a distance of 121 km, while women and juniors will do eight laps covering 88 km. Teenagers will cover five laps.

This will be the 5th edition of the Heroes Cycling Cup. The inaugural event took place in 2020 and was won by Jean-Eric Habimana and Diane Ingabire in the men’s and women’s category respectively.

BK Arena – Simba Kimironko-Kibagabaga- Serena Apartment-KG299 St-Ku Mpave (Kangondo)-KG9 Nyarutarama-Alubibi Apartment-MTN Center-RDB-KG527 St (Gasabo District office)-Airtel Center- Mu Migina-BK Arena.
