Volleyball: Cameroonian coach Mboulet closes in on REG move

Cameroonian tactician Jean Patrice Ndaki Mboulet could soon be announced as new Rwanda Energy Group (REG) men’s volleyball club head coach, Times Sport has learned.

REG has been in talks with Mboulet over the past couple of weeks and the two parties are reportedly close to reaching an agreement.

A source who has been following closely the negotiations told Times Sport that Mboulet has already agreed on personal terms with REG and will join the club in the coming weeks.

Should the deal materialize, the 44-year-old will succeed Pierre Marshal Kwizera who led the club to the 2022 national volleyball league title.

As a player, Mboulet was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Cameroon Volleyball League in 2000 while playing for Port Douala. Two years later, he moved to France where he played for four teams including AS Fréjus (2002/2003), Montpellier UC (2003-2005) and AS Cannes, with whom they reached the final of the Cup of France in 2006.

During the 2006/2007 season, he defended the colors of volleyball Saint-Brieuc Côtes-d'Armor (Pro A) before moving to Japanese side Sakai Blazers in 2007.

He also played for the Cameroon national volleyball team where made 240 appearance for the team. His younger brother, Yves Marcel Ndaki Mboulet, is also a volleyball player.

As a coach, Mboulet was part of the technical staff of the Cameroonian national team where he spent one year.

He will be leading a new-look REG side which features a number of news signings as part of club’s massive squad rebuild.

The club has been busy during the off-season, acquiring the services of a number of new players including setter Sylvestre Ndayisaba, center Ronald Muvara and outside hitter Samuel Tyson Niyogisubizo, all from Gisagara Volleyball Club

The trio was joined by Ugandan left-attacker Angiro Nespal Gideon and Sudanese left-attacker Thon Magembo who signed from Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Sport-S Volleyball Club respectively.

They are expected to fill the vacant spots left by national team captain Ivan Mahoro Nsabimana and Jean Baptiste Tuyizere who left for newcomers Kepler and center Emmy Twagirayesu who joined Police VC.
