Rwandan long-distance runner Florence Niyonkuru won bronze in the women’s half marathon at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Sunday.

The achievement comes after her historic bronze medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where she became the first Rwandan athlete to win a medal at the Games.

Niyonkuru, 25, clocked 1:06:05 to finish third at the second edition of the World Athletics Road Running Championships.

Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich won gold in 1:05:15, with compatriot Veronica Loleo taking silver in 1:05:55. Niyonkuru finished 50 seconds behind Loleo and one minute behind the champion.

The bronze adds to Niyonkuru’s impressive run of form this year. In April, she won gold in the elite women’s 10,000m at the TCS World 10K Bengaluru.
