Wonders never cease. Think of the offspring of former president Juvénal Habyarimana; sons of one of the twentieth century’s worst criminals having the audacity to smear, slander, or drag President Paul Kagame and his administration through the mud, on an almost daily basis. ALSO READ: When Habyarimana’s wife and her “akazu” orchestrated genocide To see the things these two men post on their social media accounts, one who knows nothing about Rwanda’s history would never imagine that they, in fact, are children of two of the biggest monsters in Rwanda’s history: Habyarimana and his wife Agathe Kanziga - their mother who today enjoys a comfortable life in exile, never having faced trial, or made answerable for the crimes she perpetrated. ALSO READ: April 28, 1991: Habyarimana’s un-minimizable declaration of “the final solution” What happened in this country – from 1990 to 1994 when plans were hatched, and then executed to eliminate the entire Tutsi population – has been recorded, and filed away as indisputable history. Juvenal Habyarimana, who was president of Rwanda for two decades and headed the MRND party was the authoritarian chairing the plot, organizing local government authorities to draw up lists of each and every Tutsi in the prefectures, communes, all the way down to the cells. The order: No Tutsi, “Inyenzi” cockroach, was to survive; not one! ALSO READ: Killing many in a short period; how civilians were prepared for the Genocide Habyarimana was the head of the regime that conceived, and hatched a plan to use Hutu youth militias, Interahamwe and others, to perform the brunt of the task of mass murder. It was MRND that procured and purchased the machetes, and other crude tools to carry out their grisly task. It was the Habyarimana regime that gave them transport and “logistics” as well as cannabis, to turn the militias into mindless killing, and raping, machines. ALSO READ: British journalist Linda Melvern sheds light on most obvious forms of genocide denial No offspring of Habyarimana or other genocidaires can ever obfuscate the fact it was the MRND regime (together with its foreign European masters) that was in charge of training the bloodthirsty militias in all the arts of cold-blooded murder, not mentioning rape, and unleash them upon the terrified Tutsi population with instructions to kill with utmost malice, and leave no Tutsi alive including babies; and those still in their mothers’ wombs. These are facts, indisputable, immune to any attempts at revisionism. Videos and photographs of Habyarimana’s Interahamwe marauding everywhere with their machetes. Yet (wonders never cease indeed) you will find Jean Luc Habyarimana, Leon Habyarimana and their friends writing on their X (formerly Twitter) accounts, or commenting on YouTube channels with zero apparent shame or self-awareness: that it in fact is the RPF (as a fighting force commanded by Paul Kagame) that was responsible for the genocide. They resort to the old canard that “the reason genocide happened was because ‘Kagame shot down the aircraft Habyarimana was traveling in and killed him’, therefore people rose en-masse to take revenge for their president Habyarimana.” ALSO READ: Jambo ASBL and the intersection of religion and extremism This grotesque lie has been thoroughly debunked by all manner of experts, including independent jurists, experts in ballistics, as well as crack investigators in these kinds of crimes. No matter, they will never let it go. Obviously, the reason Habyarimana’s offspring so actively spout lies about what happened when the greatest tragedy in Rwanda’s history happened, and do their utmost to distort history is to try to whitewash their criminal parents. They are in constant panic that at some point their mother could find herself in the dock, finally, answering some very difficult questions. And they were witness to events in their parents’ house in the aftermath of the plane crash in which their father died, just outside the compound of their house. They saw what happened – during events reconstructed and recounted by, among others, journalist Andrew Wallis in his thoroughly researched work Stepp’d in Blood – when their mother Agathe Kanziga busily orchestrated murders and massacres from the Habyarimanas’ sitting room in Kanombe. They know the real power in the land actually was the kitchen cabinet called akazu, which was composed of powerful relatives – brothers and cousins of their mother such as Zigiranyirazo, Bagosora, Rwagafilita – a who-is-who of senior genocidaires. This evil clique which was headed by Agathe Habyarimana, in fact, is the one that hatched the plot to kill Habyarimana and blame it on Kagame, while using it as the perfect excuse to start full-scale genocide, something they had prepared long before RPF/A got anywhere near Kigali. Habyarimana had to die as a sacrificial lamb. And he had to die also because the Akazu thought he was disposable - for they had started to suspect he might cave in to power-sharing provisions in the Arusha peace talks. Habyarimana’s offspring are deathly scared all these skeletons, and more, could come out in the open, in a case their mother’s trial were to happen. And so, they lie, with ever more desperation, and at every opportunity.
