Editor, RE: “Drug addiction: The cancer eating up musicians” (The New Times, April 22). I agree with Eva Kami. Overgeneralizing such a personal issue is a wrong approach as it permits us to Band-Aid a much deeper issue stemming from the individual’s life experiences, in this case the addict. There is no one-size-fits-all type of formula. These cases need to be studied thoroughly by experts in the field. And let’s please use accurate information when reporting on such a sensitive issue. The use of marijuana shouldn’t even be in the same category as alcohol or heroin use or any other opiates for that matter. Marijuana is actually being used to treat all kinds of illnesses, including addiction itself. THC, the chemical found in the dried leaves, is a naturally occurring substance found everywhere, in various forms, one of which being the natural plant we see everywhere on the planet as well as our own brain.
