Composer of CHAN song dreams of World Cup stage

Two weeks ago, Isaac Ssozi composed an African Nations Championship (CHAN) song and headed to ‘Ipfundo Studio’ where he produced it. The song, which he simply called ‘CHAN’ is what he calls the beginning greater things ahead. He has bigger dreams of singing official songs for bigger competitions like the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup. “I have hope of singing at bigger sports events. I dream of singing songs for such competitions like the World Cup and African Nations Cup,” he says. Ssozi who is a reggae dancehall singer is also a member of the African Calabash group, a trio that has released songs like Let’s talk about love, and Chocolate among others. The song has already won massive air play both on radio and TV around the country. The video of the song is also on YouTube where it is enjoying a fair following. It gives both local and international football lovers a treat being both in English and Kinyarwanda He says the inspiration behind this song is his passion and love for football. “I love football and since I am an artiste in Rwanda, I wanted to play part in the hosting of CHAN. I wanted to show how proud I am of my country by welcoming the visiting countries with a song,” he says. Ssozi says that the song has already yielded dividends. He says it has played part in mobilizing the fans to flood the stadiums contributing to the triumph that Rwanda has enjoyed so far. He has performed the song in many places including nightclubs, bars and the national stadium where its video was captured. Though the artiste has already produced a number of songs that have won the hearts of a substantial audience in the industry, he says this song is very special. “The song is a special because it is the song of the moment and is completely different from my other songs when you listen to it,” he says. He believes besides reaching the finals, Rwanda stands a chance to also win the cup. Besides singing, Ssozi is also a producer and sound engineer. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
