APR FC’s poor run in the ongoing national league season hit yet another low after the reigning champions suffered a shock 1-1 draw against lowly Pepiniere FC on Sunday at Stade de Kigali.
Pepiniere striker Michael Nduwimana broke the deadlock in the 45th minute after a brilliant assist from Gilbert Mugisha to put the Ruyenzi-based side in the lead before the half time break.
The 16-time record league champions APR came into the second half determined to find an equalizer. Coach Jimmy Mulisa replaced forward Patrick Sibomana with Maxime Sekamana, as APR piled more pressure on Pepiniere.
In the 75th minute, Sekamana equalized for APR after a nice footwork between Innocent Nshuti and Eric Tuyishime before giving a nice through ball to Sekamana who fired a powerful shot inside the net to bring them back into the game.
Mulisa’s side tried to search for a winning goal, but the relegation threatened Pepiniere denied them any chance.
This is the fourth time in a row that APR has dropped points to lowly sides which include a 1-0 loss against Gicumbi FC, a 1-all draw against Musanze FC and a barren draw against Kirehe FC.
Following this draw, APR with 41 points remain in the second spot with one point behind their traditional archrivals Rayon Sport that has however played three games less.
Meanwhile in other games played on Sunday, SC Kiyovu lost 0-1 against Kirehe FC at Mumena Stadium thanks to the lone goal of Benjamin Ndagijimana while Sunrise beat Entincelle 1-0 in Nyagatare turf courtesy of a Fred Etienne strike.
Mukura defeated Espoir 3-2 at Huye Stadium in the southern province derby courtesy of Ally Niyonzima, Christopher Bukuru and Cedrick Samba while a one Albert Wilondja and Ally Mbogo netted for Espoir FC.
