Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) has impounded a vehicle belonging to the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) over unpaid premiums. The arrears, worth Rwf61.2 million, date back to 1990. According to the FERWAFA secretary general Jean Olivier Mulindahabi, the vehicle, an omnibus, which was taken last week from the federation headquarters, is valued at Rwf16m. But the official told Times Sport in an exclusive interview on Tuesday that, so far, they have been able to pay Rwf24,229,684 million and still owe RSSB Rwf46 million. He said this money includes the actual premium worth Rwf9m plus penalties, which amount to Rwf38, 742,080 million. Mulindahabi said that, “We have had problems paying the money since 1990, but we are negotiating with RSSB to see if they can (write off) the premiums before 1994.” “We are working hard to make sure we pay all the money but you have to understand that it’s a lot of money that we cannot pay in one day, the target is to clear all the debts before this term ends in 2018,” he added. Mulindahabi further revealed that FERWAFA’s total debts stood at Rwf280m (owed to different companies since 1990), but added that the current administration, led by Vincent Nzamwita, has so far cleared Rwf130m.
