Mobile Police Station reaches Nyamasheke

Hundreds of residents in Nyamasheke District queued to get services offered by the Mobile Police Station Vehicle. The vehicle started its tour of the district yesterday; parked in a market place in Mahembo Sector, where Police officers received residents seeking various services. Jean Hategekimana, one of the residents, urged police to come up with more innovative initiatives aimed to overcome crime and lawlessness. “Although we live far away, Police has endeavored to reach out and to listen to us. This is a good gesture and a very crucial service, which reminds criminals that Rwandans are willing to work together to ensure safety,” Hategekimana said. “Police should ensure that such services are always available because we need them. We will ensure that we work with Police by coming forward with information that is useful in maintaining law and order.” The director of anti-Narcotic Unit in the Criminal Investigations Department, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Urbain Mwiseneza, warned the community against drug abuse and illicit brew blamed for gender-based-violence and theft in the area. “Responsible members of society should sensitise others about the dangers that such drugs pause to security,” he said. During the operations of Police Mobile Station Vehicle, police partners with the ministries of Justice, and Local Government and Social Affairs to ensure all complaints received are given adequate attention. Police handles complaints that are within its mandate to investigate, while the rest are channeled to relevant institutions such as the judiciary and local leaders. The officers also educate residents on rights, freedoms and where to report particular complaints that they may have. Police currently has three Mobile Station Vehicles that cover countryside areas which are in need of the services. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
