Taxi-moto operators vow to fight genocide ideology

As part of their resolutions for the 21st Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, commercial motorcyclists operating in Kamonyi District have vowed to fight against genocide ideology and protect survivors. This was said during a sensitization workshop organized by Rwanda National Police (RNP) in Kamonyi District, where members of the motorcyclists’ association committed not to tolerate anyone in their business or community to disrespect or threaten the memory of those who perished in the Genocide. The District Police Commander, Superintendent Hamza Vita commended the efforts of motorcyclists in honoring the commemoration period, and also reminded them to improve their role in preserving community safety by not aiding any criminal. “Community safety must be the priority for every Rwandan during this commemoration period. Anyone intending to threaten survivors or to promote genocide ideology must not be tolerated but reported to authorities,” he said. “Do not tolerate anyone amongst you who harbors genocide ideologies, or anyone who is suspected of trying to conduct any illegal activity during this commemoration period. Let us work together through community policing and ensure that Rwanda’s safety is sustained.” Activities to mark the 21st commemoration of the Genocide against Tutsi revolve around engaging the international community on the issue of genocide denial and revisionism.
