Local coaches 'fear' Amavubi job

Local coaches have distanced themselves from applying for the national football team head coach position which fell vacant after Stephen Constantine resigned last month. Times Sport talked to several top tacticians who revealed that they will not be applying for the job which has attracted coaches from across the world including former Sierra Leone coach Johnny McKinstry. Cassa Mbungo is committed to Police. File Renowned football coach Andre Cassa Mbungo who is currently in charge of Police FC has admitted that, “I have a three-year contract with Police FC so I cannot apply for the Amavubi job. However, I would love to be head coach one day. It is an opportunity I am looking forward to that would be great if I achieved it in my coaching career.” Mbungo, who guided AS Kigali to the third round of the Caf Confederations Cup last year, signed with the law enforcers and is currently keen on transforming the club into title contenders. Former Amavubi coach Eric Nshimiyimana acknowledged that, “I will not apply for the Amavubi job, I am happy with my current job at AS Kigali and I am enjoying every minute.” Jean Baptiste Kayiranga, former assistant to Nshimiyimana during his last tenure with the Amavubi said, “Ferwafa is aware of my achievements so if they think I am good enough, they will appoint me. File Kayiranga, who was recently sacked by Mukura, is currently without a team but admits that it would be a pleasure to coach the Amavubi. APR assistant coach Vincent Mashami said, “To be honest, it is not my time yet. My time will come. I still have a lot to learn and I respect that.” The 34-year-old has several qualifications including the UEFA B license, the A, B and C licenses from the German Football Federation (DFB) as well as CAF C license. He revealed that he has a lot to learn before he can apply for the biggest job in the land.
