Six officers of the Rwanda Defence Force were yesterday sworn in as registrars in military courts following their approval by a cabinet meeting in June this year. Their oath, which took place at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Kigali, was graced by James Kabarebe, the Defence minister. Two of them will be assigned to the Military High Court, while the rest will be based at the Military Tribunal. S/Maj. Corneille Habimana and Sergeants Alphonse Kintu, Bernard Munyaneza and Abdulkarim Umuhoza will work at the Military Tribunal, while Sylvain Mutabaruka and Jonas Rutayisire will be deployed at the Military high Court. The latter are also at the rank of Sergeant. Minister Kabarebe said court registrars play a significant role in delivering justice. “RDF lauds the significant role played by military registrars in delivering justice in the country. That’s why the Force requested government to approve your appointment so that you compliment your colleagues,” Kabarebe said. “This is an indicator that the RDF considers justice as a priority,” he said, adding that justice is one of the pillars on which the country is built. Besides dispensing justice, he advised them to make use of the available ICT tools to ensure justice is delivered in a timely manner. He said the Ministry of Defence is committed to collaborating with RDF and other stakeholders, like the Justice ministry, to ensure they receive periodical training that will facilitate them to discharge of their duties with ease.
