Rwanda will shine at World Karate Championships - Coach

The three players representing Rwanda at the World Karate Federation (WKF) Championships in Germany, next week, are going to make sure Rwanda’s presence is felt, says national team coach Ruslan Adamov. The 20-year- old Solange Gashagaza Ingabire and the 21- year-old duo of Vanily Ngarambe and Emery Espoir Ntungane will play against the world’s best in the WKF Championships taking place November 5 to 9. During Wednesday’s training session, Adamov who has been with the team for the past three years told this paper that the team is ready for a tough test. “We’ll demonstrate our utmost fighting effort, show a good fighting spirit and good technique. Solange has progressed a lot now as sensei Tamer from Egypt has showed us other tactical strategies at a higher level.”Adamov said. On Friday, the players wrap up an intensive training programme under the supervision of Adamov and Tamer Abdel-Raouf, a highly rated Egyptian coach introduced a fortnight ago to boost the team’s chances. Ingabire who grabbed bronze for the country in August’s 15th Senior African Karate Championship in Senegal will fight in the -68kg category, while Ngarambe and Ntungane compete in the 67kg and 60kg categories respectively. To succeed, however, the players will have to defy the odds seeing that Ingabire’s 68kg category has 53 entries, Ngarambe’s 67kg category has 74 entries and Ntungane’s 60kg category has 64 entries. Over 1,000 athletes will compete in the competition. The team flies to Germany on Sunday evening.
