AS RWANDA marks the 20th anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, in which over a million people were killed, there will be no sports activities for the next one week. Most sports federations namely; football, basketball, volleyball, cycling and athletics, among others, will use the period to remember the sports men and women, who were massacred during the Genocide 20 years ago. The activities held in honor of the victims are usually held in the course of the 100 days of remembering, between April and July. Sports in Rwanda has been used to help in the healing process. The Genocide affects all segments of society and sport was no exception. Genocide survivors have found healing in sports. During the mourning period, touching testimonies by some sports personalities who witnessed the horror of 20 years ago, will reveal how Rwanda has evolved from a painfull past to a peaceful present.
