Those bleak mornings and empty days

What do you do when you find yourself with nothing to write? Have you ever woken up in the morning and felt as if someone scooped out your brain with a spoon and didn’t leave a trace of it ever being there?

What do you do when you find yourself with nothing to write? Have you ever woken up in the morning and felt as if someone scooped out your brain with a spoon and didn’t leave a trace of it ever being there? Well, if you have ever, then you know what I’m talking about. If you have never felt this way, well, good for you! When you first open your eyes, it takes you a few minutes to figure out where you are. When you do, you seem to have trouble remembering where things are located in the house. You go looking for toothpaste in the refrigerator only to find a pint of milk. You take a sip and completely forget what you were looking for before. As you close the fridge, somewhere in the house a phone rings, you don’t know where to start looking. You even stop breathing for better hearing! By the time you find it, the caller has hung up, killing any chances of clearing your head! This feeling is worse than amnesia; it creates a feeling that the body you possess is not yours. Next, you check your wallet for some sort of ID, and this is when you see your work ID. You check the time and realise that in Rwanda, you are actually a couple of hours late for work. You grab the nearest pants, shirt and pair of shoes and storm out. Hell, shower for what? You are late for Christ’s sake! You tell a moto chap to take you to the address on the ID card at breakneck speed.  This is when you enter office and look at everyone as if they are from another planet. No one pays attention to you simply because they are used to you and your freaky ways. Probably this is not the first time this has happened to you. You take a deep breath and slowly go to the empty desk praying it is the one you use every day. Luckily there is no password needed - this is when you realise you are a writer and you are just a few hours past the deadline. You scramble for something to write but your head is empty.  You find youerself sweating and you can’t tell if it’s a result of a bleak head  or something more worrying. This is when you decided to write exactly what happened to you. After all, something is better than nothing, right!  Don’t judge, this could happen to anyone…trust me…I’ve seen it one too many times!
