Fantastic white pumps

With all the celebrity sightings and Kigali’s very own Diner en Blanc just over a week ago – it seems that the colour white is popping up everywhere in fashion. So although black is typically the go-to standard shoe, it looks like white is making a strong comeback this season.

Who wants to wear the same old black leather shoes anyway?

In a recent quote published by InStyle Magazine, Sandra Choi, the Creative Director of Jimmy Choo said, "These chic sleek heels are very of the moment. I love them with anything white, such as jeans or tailored pants.” The Jimmy Choo shoe she was referring to is a faux fur white high pump with black heels and soft pointed toe. In the same line of thinking, designer Alexandre Birman created a white leather pointed shoe with a stiletto heel. The edging of the shoe is softly scalloped, creating a lovely visual effect on the foot.

Alejandro Ingelmo, on the other hand, took the look more futuristic and crafted a pearl white stiletto pump. It features a weave of white patent leather pieces on the upper heel for an exaggerated height look. American designer Michael Kors combined the crisp white look with jet black. His heel also incorporates the fashionable metal cap on the pointed toe, and a matching silver metal bar for the heel.

This look can just as easily be paired with jeans as a couture fashion dress on the runway. Star Trek actress Zoe Saldana wore simple pointed white leather pumps to the Film Independent Spirit Awards. She paired with a forest-green and white-stripped tea-length dress. Her scoop neck and three quarter length sleeves gave the outfit a slight vintage feel. She wore minimalist jewelry with the ensemble.

Solange Knowles, sister to the famous Beyonce Knowles, wore pointed white T-strap pumps. She paired with a navy mini-dress with white-polka dots. The whole look had a very fun, flirty feel. The ever stunning Kerry Washington, star of the hit TV show Scandal, wore pointed white pumps and a matching white bow in her hair to the opening of her movie Django Unchained released last year.

White shoes can make any outfit ultra-modern. It looks best when you pair with ensembles with a hint of vintage style or minimalistic tailoring. If you want to be daring, pair with an entirely white outfit. However, you can also wear with a no-white ensemble to make the shoes stand out. It is best to go for simpler styles, and a pointed toe will elongate your legs. Also try to dress a bit more on the conservative side. Whatever you do, stay away from white pumps with platforms.

That’s the fashion scoop for this week. Got a thought? Trend? Style you hate? Send it my way. fashion@newtimes.co.rw
