Organized by Rwanda Taekwondo Federation (RTF) in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Rwanda, the annual tournament has, since its inception in 2012, been approved as the most attractive and best organized international Taekwondo tournament in the great lakes region.

Now in its 10th edition, the 2023 Taekwondo championship will, according to organizers, be unique and special "because it will serve as the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the partnership and friendship between Rwanda and Korea.”

Participating countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Botswana and hosts Rwanda. Over 300 Taekwondoins are expected to participate.

Besides the competition, the event will be entertained by the Kukkiwon Demonstration Team, a Taekwondo team based in Seoul, Korea.

The 'Korean Ambassador's Cup' tournament was last played in 2022 whereby Rwanda National Police Taekwondo Club emerged overall champions.

At the time, among others, Dan Ngiriyaremye of Dream Fighters TC was the male player of the tournament, while the best female was Adeline Umutesi from Rwanda Police TC.
