One of Rwanda’s up coming musicians, James Nzibavuga, aka Rocks James is taking a slow and firm stand into his musical career.

The musician whose music style is dancehall has been in the venture for years till last year when he hit the radio wave with a single akadiho kaba papeli (dance of the people).

The upcoming artist began his career since childhood while still in Mityana, Uganda as Sunday school choir member. Coming to Rwanda in 1998, Rocks joined the choir at EPR protestant church in Kicyukiro.

In 2005, he left the church choir and joined the outside world for the same career. Leaving the church, Rocks joined Hot-side group which included sounding names of Rafiki, Clovis, MC Fab, Merabu, and Kamis with DJ B as the producer.

While in the group, Rocks participated in a number of shows that have also contributed greatly to his raise. Rocks performed in Inambwe show alongside the Obsessions of Uganda and at the MTN Twukate. It was also his group that formed the Inambwe song

After 2 years, the Hot-side group split. Clovis, MC Fab and DJ B formed the trinity group. He struggled till when he made it to Narrow production studio for akadiho kaba papeli. The single has a video which is currently running on the national television (TVR), with some of the modern video graphics.

Since then, Rocks has begun to gain stand again with another single hit called Iwacu from One way studio. Teaming up with Man Charles of the famous Indaya (prostitute), Rocks has now performed in various shows including the Contact Fm show.

Together, they organised a show without any support. And later on, Man Charles with the support of Rocks also managed to launch his album earlier this year at School of Finance and Business (SFB).

Despite all the challenges in Rwanda’s music industry like lack of sponsorship and promotions, Rocks James is enduring and determined to push on. Credit only goes to the national TV and radio stations. However, Rocks and Man Charles are currently working on hits like Inama, Namucya, Sibomana all still in the studio but expected to be out and launched in November this year.
