The national cycling federation will today carry out a talent scouting mission for young talented girls in Bugesera district in the Eastern Province.According to Emmanuel Murenzi, the Executive Secretary of the local cycling governing body, they are looking for girls under the age of 20 years, who are talented in the sport in order to build a strong cycling team."We are one of the top cycling nations on the continent, but we have not had a strong women team that is why we are organizing this tournament,” Murenzi said. The riders will compete in a 29km race where the top 10 riders will get cash prizes.Rwanda remains the best cycling nation in the region by many miles and only elite countries like Morocco, South Africa and Eritrea have better cyclists on the continent. The Tour of Rwanda is now the third highest ranked race in Africa after Tour of Gabon and Tour of Burkinfaso.
