Why hang profane pictures on the wall

A young friend of mine, I can only identify as Jessica asked for advice regarding her 15-year-old-brother who hangs very sexy pictures of half-dressed girls on his bedroom wall. Jessica feels that she needs to help her brother change his new hobby, but still does not understand how.

Teenagers' bedrooms are usually the only physical space they have all to themselves. They always want to impress anyone who walked into their room to show that they have cool styles and taste.

When I was a teen, my room was my identity lab. On my walls, I could play with how I wanted to be perceived by others, combining images to create something bigger than any single picture could depict.

Teens today live in a secularized culture and are repeatedly exposed to sexual scenes and violence, through the media. In most cases, teens are least concerned about whether what they do is appropriate or not.

Several teenagers feel entitled to their rights and always think they know many things, even when they do not. This is part of growing up and every human being goes through this process. However, the key is to help them understand how exposure to certain graphic and profane content in the media affects their moral decisions.

My response is that depicting women as sexual objects to be physically used is neither honorable to women nor appropriate for any teen.

If a boyfriend or friend had profane pictures on his wall, it’s time to talk to him. The fact that a girlfriend can encourage their boyfriends to treat them that way, speaks volumes about their lack of moral standards and self-esteem.

Young girls should be able to determine how they want to be appropriately treated. Learn to communicate with each other and see if there is no change in the way, profane images are used.

Do not be afraid to rise up to the standard for your brother, friend or boyfriend and tell them the hard truth.

Jessica should be encouraged to speak to his brother and show him the downside of hanging obscene pictures on his wall. He might as well be nudged to change his point of view.
