50MW plant set for Kivu
Egyptian firm, Orascom, will construct a methane gas plant at L.Kivu to produce 50MW of electricity. The project will boost government’s plans to increase electricity production to 1,000MW in seven years.

Reliance on aid falls
ActionAid launched a report indicating that Rwanda’s dependence on foreign aid spiralled from 86 per cent in 2000 to 45 per cent in 2010 owing to the increased ability by the treasury to raise domestic revenues.

Tea revenues up
National tea receipts increased 4 per cent from Rwf19.6b in the first six months of 2010 to Rwf20.4b in the same period this year on account of improved tea prices on the international market.  The figure is the highest in three years.
