RUSIZI - The monthly community work is now carried out twice a month in Rusizi District, local leaders said.

Gilbert Rukazambuga, Executive Secretary of Kamembe Sector, explained that the community work scheme will be done in the middle and end of the month in trying to attain the required sanitation standards.

"Gardens have been planted; the city is clean, water pipes are flowing ever since we redoubled umuganda.”

Residents embraced the idea since it began, two months ago.

"I work at a market which used to be extremely dirty, yet we patiently waited for the end of month to clean it up. We now work in clean conditions with fresh air,” says AnisetteByukusenge.

"Doing community work twice gets us more involved in keeping the town clean. There is no way you can dedicate two days every month to cleaning and then irresponsibly litter the city,” says Blaize Maniraguha, a resident of Kamembe.
