Rwanda’s football champions Groupe Scolaire des Parents will meet St. Mary’s Kitende of Uganda in the semi-finals of the East African Schools soccer championships in Kisumu today.Groupe Scolaire des Parents qualified to the semi-finals after obtaining the second position in group ‘B’ with five points from their group fixtures.

St. Mary’s Kitende who topped group A with 12 points will face the Rwanda school while favourite group ‘A’ second placed and Tanzania representative Makongo will face St Anthony today at Moi stadium.

In girls’ category, Groupe Aspej has qualified to the finals and they will face Kenya’s Wiyetta tomorrow.

In basketball, College Inyemeramihigo lost Uganda’s Nabisunsa on 47-54 in the semi-final stage of the boy’s basketball championship in Kisumu.

Other champions, Kibuli SS from Uganda defeated Tanzania’s Makongo 58-50 to book their final spot in the on-going games. An all-Uganda final event is expected when Kibuli take on Nabisunsa tomorrow.

However, in the girl’s category, College Inyemeramihigo failed to go past the group stages as they failed to record a deserved qualification from both Tigoi and Nabisusa girls’ schools.

In handball, St. Joseph Muhanga lost to Uganda’s Gombe SS 27-29 in the quarter-finals of the boy’s category handball championship.

In the girl’s category, Apapeki Cyuru qualified to the semi-finals despite losing their quarter-final game to Gombe SS 12-14. Apapeki Cyuru faces Moi SS in the semi-finals today.

In Volleyball, St. Joseph Muhanga battled to the semi-final stage after fellow national representatives Group Scolaire Officiel de Butare failed to go past the group stages. St. Joseph Muhanga will face defending champions, St. Mary’s Kitende of Uganda in the semi-finals while Malaba faces Cheptil.

The East African Secondary Schools Championship which is sponsored by the Kenya Barclays and Brookside international is set to climax tomorrow at Moi stadium.
