The army athletics club, APR, is planning to recruit female athletes to balance up the team for better performance, coach Innocent Rwabuhihi has said.

"We want to recruit young athletes, especially from schools,” Rwabuhihi said, "This will help the team win more team-awards than before.”

APR athletics club has lost many team awards on basis of lack of enough number of female athletes to complement for the team. Rwabuhihi however did not specify the actual number of female athletes the club would recruit.

The club has only two outstanding athletes, Clementine Nyiribuhirwa and Claudette Mukasakindi currently camping in the high altitudes of Ruhengeri for the March 30 Edinburgh World Cross country championships.  APR has five players on the nine- man team.

Athletics that will be recruited in the army club will be given school fees, equipments and refreshments in addition to thorough training.

The team has plans to shape role models in the female category like it has in the male. The country’s acclaimed athlete, Dieudonne Disi hails from APR.

Rwabuhihi said that ladies should learn that becoming an international athlete like Disi will take them time and therefore have to spirit.
